01 / Overview

Haikou is one of the key earthquake monitoring and defense areas in China, and also one of the provincial capitals with the highest seismic fortification intensity in the country. Hainan Province is located in a seismic fortification zone, with 9 cities and counties in seismic fortification zones of VII (7 degrees) or above. Among them, Haikou City has an earthquake intensity of VIII (8 degrees), making it one of the provincial capitals with the highest seismic fortification requirements in China. The major earthquake in Hainan during the Ming Wanli period was also a rare "North Hainan Earthquake" in the history of earthquakes both domestically and internationally. The land subsidence area is over 100 square kilometers. More than 70 villages in the area have sunk into the sea, and the 'underwater villages' have become a unique feature of Qiongshan.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
