01 / Overview

Bending stiffness refers to the ability of a material to resist bending deformation, which is related to the elastic modulus and cross-sectional shape of the material. In the fields of architecture and engineering, bending stiffness determines the degree of deformation and stability of materials when subjected to bending moments, and is a key parameter that cannot be ignored in design.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The difference in perceived "softness" when pressing different materials mainly depends on two key factors - elastic modulus (E) and sectional moment of inertia (I). The product of the two is the bending stiffness, which determines the bending resistance of the material: bending stiffness=elastic modulus (E) × sectional moment of inertia (I) 2. Elastic modulus (E) Elastic modulus is the ratio of stress to strain within the elastic deformation range of the material, determined by the interatomic bonding force. It reflects the 'intrinsic hardness' of materials and is an important indicator of material properties. Under the same cross-sectional shape, the bending resistance of wood, aluminum alloy, conventional carbon fiber composite materials, and steel increases in sequence: wood<aluminum alloy<conventional carbon fiber composite materials *<steel * Note: Carbon fiber itself has a high elastic modulus, but it must be combined with other base materials to cure and form. Due to the limitations of the mechanical properties of the matrix material, the overall bending stiffness of the component will be significant.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
