01 / Overview

By observing the spectra presented by different lights through a spectrophotometer, we can understand the principles and history of spectral discovery and element analysis using spectra. The exhibit consists of a booth, interactive lighting box, interactive light splitter device, and graphic materials, showcasing the spectra of different light sources and methods for analyzing substance composition using spectra. There are 5 different types of lamps installed in the scenic box, namely neon, helium, nitrogen, incandescent, and fluorescent lamps. Visitors click the start button on the booth, and the selected light tube lights up. They then pick up the spectrogram to observe the spectral lines of the glowing light tube. Atomic spectroscopy can be used to measure the elements contained in celestial bodies. Target audience: Adolescents aged 6-15. Display format: Electromechanical interactive device operation instructions (audience experience) 1 Visitors click on the button on the booth, and the corresponding light tube lights up; 2. Pick up the spectrophotometer interactive device and observe the spectral lines of the luminous tube through the spectrophotometer. 02 / How visitors use it

Interaction type: Interactive installation. The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Atomic spectrum is a spectrum composed of a series of wavelengths of light emitted or absorbed by electrons in atoms as their energy changes. Part of the wavelengths of light in an atomic absorption light source form an absorption spectrum, which appears as dim fringes; When photons are emitted, an emission spectrum is formed, which is a bright colored stripe. The spectrum of each atom is different, hence it is called the characteristic spectrum. Thin gases can emit light when electrified. The spectrum of gas emission can be obtained using a spectroscope. However, this spectrum is not a continuous spectrum, it only has a few discrete bright lines. That is to say, when a rarefied gas is electrified, only a few specific frequencies of light are emitted. The positions of the bright lines in the spectra of different gases are different, indicating that the frequency of luminescence of different gases is different. The following figure shows several spectral lines of hydrogen. Bohr's theory explains the spectrum of hydrogen atoms very well. When an atom transitions from a high energy level to a low energy level, the energy of the radiated photon is equal to the two energies before and after.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
