01 / Overview

In terms of protection, oil can form a protective layer, isolating components from highly corrosive seawater, reducing corrosion risks, and improving the durability and reliability of components.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The deep-sea environment has high pressure, high salt, high humidity, and strong corrosion characteristics. Seawater is both a strong electrolyte and a medium with extremely poor lubrication performance, posing a serious threat to marine equipment components. By encapsulating the components with oil, dual protection against corrosion and wear can be achieved, greatly improving the reliability and service life of the equipment in extreme environments. In terms of corrosion prevention, oil filling can form a dense isolation layer on the surface of components, avoiding direct contact with seawater and effectively blocking chemical corrosion, biological corrosion, and electrochemical corrosion. Due to the extremely strong conductivity of seawater, it is prone to rapid electrochemical corrosion of metals. The oil film isolates the conductive medium, reducing the risk of corrosion failure at the root. In terms of reducing wear, the viscosity of seawater is only 1/20 to 1/100 of mineral oil, and its lubrication ability is extremely poor. In addition, the complex turbulence, vibration, and impact of deep-sea environments make friction pairs such as robotic arm joints and moving parts prone to abnormal wear. After filling with specialized lubricating oil, it can.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
