01 / Overview

Biomimetic robotic fish refer to the propulsion mechanism of fish (including whales and dolphins) swimming, and use mechanical and electronic components or intelligent materials to achieve underwater propulsion. By swinging its tail fin, the robotic fish can avoid the lateral turbulence generated by traditional propellers, while generating vortices that are consistent with the propulsion direction and optimizing the wake structure, thereby improving its fluid dynamics performance. Preliminary experiments have shown that the propulsion efficiency of robotic fish is over 30% higher than that of conventional underwater equipment. Some robotic fish are also equipped with multimodal sensors and advanced global visual control technology, endowing them with perceptual abilities such as vision and hearing, enabling them to safely and flexibly perform various tasks in underwater environments, such as navigating narrow waters, detection, collaborative operations, environmental monitoring, map construction, underwater photography, equipment maintenance, and combustible ice detection.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

(1) Biomimetic robotic fish is a high-tech product that mimics the appearance and behavior of real fish. They pursue biological deception and low environmental disturbance in their design to achieve high concealment. These robotic fish are equipped with various sensors and advanced visual control technology, endowing them with visual, auditory, and sensory abilities, enabling them to safely and flexibly perform various tasks in underwater environments, such as navigating narrow waters, detection, collaborative operations, environmental monitoring, map construction, underwater photography, equipment maintenance, and combustible ice detection. (2) The obstacle avoidance function of the biomimetic robotic fish is equipped with infrared obstacle avoidance sensors. Combined with the infrared obstacle avoidance sensors on both sides, the autonomous biomimetic robotic fish platform can effectively avoid underwater obstacles. (3) The floating and diving functions of the bionic robotic fish, coupled with the IMU sensor, enable the bionic robotic fish to maintain stable posture underwater at all times. It can be adjusted by its own center of gravity.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
