The "Striver" titanium alloy pressure resistant ball cabin is independently developed by China and assembled from two titanium alloy hemispheres. It is currently the largest and largest manned ball cabin in the world in terms of size and capacity, capable of carrying the largest number of people. During the development process, researchers successfully overcame three key technical challenges: firstly, they developed a new type of titanium alloy material Ti62A; Secondly, they have mastered the forming technology of large-sized and ultra thick titanium alloys; Thirdly, it has broken through the welding technology of high-strength and high toughness titanium alloys. This exhibit is a 1:1 scale replica model of a spherical cabin.
The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.
The manned pressure resistant capsule is the core component of the "Striver" deep-sea manned submersible and a key barrier for human safety entering the deep sea of tens of thousands of meters. It can carry three divers and scientists, with three observation windows and a personnel entrance and exit at the top. After closing the hatch cover, a completely enclosed workspace is formed. The ball cabin is made of China's independently developed Ti62A new titanium alloy. This material was originally widely used in the aerospace industry, and its excellent corrosion resistance can effectively resist the erosion of complex deep-sea environments, significantly improving the service life of equipment; At the same time, titanium alloy has both high strength and good elasticity, which can withstand extreme water pressure of tens of thousands of meters deep and remain stable without deformation during diving and surfacing, providing reliable structural support for deep-sea operations. After three years of tackling key problems, the team of the Institute of Metals, Chinese Academy of Sciences has successfully broken through a series of key technologies such as material preparation, integral forming, equatorial welding, etc., making the "Endeavor" manned module the current size in the world.
Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
