01 / Overview

The exhibit aims to popularize the composite braking system of high-speed trains in China to visitors, with a focus on showcasing the working principles of regenerative braking and air braking, as well as how trains can achieve precise parking in daily operation through the combination of regenerative braking and air braking. Through interactive multimedia and mechanical model demonstrations, help visitors understand the working principle of the composite braking system commonly used in high-speed trains in China. The exhibit consists of mechanical wheel devices, miniature models, OLED transparent screens, and operation instrument panels. The OLED screen plays a high-speed train braking video, and the dashboard displays the high-speed train speed on the screen, while the adjacent mechanical device can visually display the working process of the disc brake separately. When visitors pull down the brake, the OLED screen will explain how to combine electric braking (regenerative braking) with air braking in the daily operation of the train, and the train speed will continuously decrease on the dashboard. After the screen is semi transparent, it will cooperate with the train model simulation behind it.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Under normal circumstances, high-speed trains will efficiently combine electric braking and air braking methods, that is, using composite braking to counteract the inertial force during forward movement. When the train decelerates, electric braking converts kinetic energy into electrical energy and recovers it. After reducing to a certain speed, the electric braking effect weakens, and it is necessary to rely on air braking to ensure accurate stopping of the train at the platform. Through this composite operation, the high-speed train can effectively shorten the braking distance, improve energy utilization, and stop smoothly and safely.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
