A standard catalogue model: the dimensions, control package and finish are fixed, which is what keeps the price and the lead time predictable. Size, colour and interface language can be adapted without a new design cycle.

01 / Overview

The exhibit consists of two experimental devices: device 1: the exhibit consists of a water tank, a floating ball and an operating interactive platform. When visitors keep pressing the pull rod, the vibration in the water tank will produce foam, which will reduce the density of water, reduce the buoyancy, and drop the ball, reflecting the principle of buoyancy. Device 2: The exhibit consists of three water tanks, three identical balls, and three ropes. The liquid density of the three water tanks is different, while the volume of the three metal balls is the same. The volume of the displaced liquid is the same, but due to the different liquid densities, the weight of the displaced liquid is also different. Therefore, visitors feel different buoyancy when pulling the ropes. Based on Archimedes' principle, visitors can interact with two experimental devices to understand the buoyancy principle of ships.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

According to Archimedes' principle, buoyancy is the vertical upward force exerted on an object immersed in a liquid, which allows a ship to float on water. The magnitude of buoyancy is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by the object. If the weight of the displaced liquid is greater than its own gravity, the object will float on the liquid surface; If it is less than its own gravity, it will sink. And when the same object sinks in liquids of different densities, the buoyancy it experiences also varies.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
